Doctoral Researcher Climate Change Policies and Conflict(part-time 75 %, E 13 TV-L)Reference no.: 2024/059. The position is available from June 1st or by agreement. The position is limited until September 30th 2027. The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.The University of Konstanz seeks to fill the position as doctoral researcher in the working group of incoming Professor of International Politics Nina von Uexkull. The successful candidate for the position will engage in pioneering research on the interconnections between climate change mitigation policies and various forms of conflict, focusing on any of the following areas: 1) Investigate how protest and conflict shape climate change mitigation policies; 2) Investigate to what degree and how stringent climate change mitigation policies present security challenges including in fossil-fuel dependent economies. The PhD project should have a predominantly comparative, quantitative methodological approach aiming for identifying systematic relationships.The University of Konstanz has a leading position in Political Science, as evidenced by the most recent Shanghai Ranking. Its unique setting on the shores of Lake Constance and its proximity to the Alps, Switzerland, Austria and France, make it the ideal location for study, work and leisure. Next to Konstanz, the co-funded position is linked to the research project Climate Change Mitigation and Protest at Uppsala University and the EU-funded POLIMPACT research project hosted by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). The PhD thesis project will be supported through supervision by Professor von Uexkull and Research Professor Halvard Buhaug (PRIO), project workshops and enrolment in the Graduate School of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The candidate is expected to teach up to 2 SWS in the second half of the PhD project period.
